ASEAN delegation outrider injured in Elite Highway crash

A police outrider escorting an ASEAN Summit delegation was injured in a crash on the Elite Highway near Dengkil R&R exit.

KUALA LUMPUR: An outrider from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department was injured in an accident at the Dengkil Rest and Recreation exit while heading northbound on the Elite Highway.

Bukit Aman JSPT Director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri confirmed the 1 pm accident involved a 35-year-old corporal riding a Kawasaki GTR police motorcycle.

He stated the corporal’s motorcycle collided with a Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive vehicle at the Dengkil R&R exit while escorting an international delegation for the 47th ASEAN Summit.

The outrider suffered a fractured left calf along with injuries to his left ankle and knee and is currently receiving treatment at Cyberjaya Hospital.

Mohd Yusri confirmed the accident cause remains under investigation under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He advised motorists to remain aware of convoy movements during the ongoing ASEAN Summit and Related Summits which conclude on Tuesday.
