Azam Baki thanks the king and his team for the trust shown during his six-year tenure as MACC chief, ending on May 12.
KUALA PILAH: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the opportunity to lead the agency for six years.
He said the trust placed in him throughout his tenure as Chief Commissioner since March 9, 2020, which will end on May 12, including three contract extensions, is a significant recognition of his team’s dedication in combating corruption.
“I express my utmost gratitude to His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim for this trust, as well as the opportunity to continue serving through three contract extensions…this is a deeply meaningful honour for me,” he said.
He told reporters this after officiating the handover ceremony of the Kampung Terentang Kariah Mosque in Padang Lebar, held in conjunction with the One Leader One Village Programme (Santuni MADANI), which was also attended by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, here today.
Azam also called on all MACC personnel to extend full cooperation to the new leadership to ensure the continuity of the agency’s excellence.
“Plans after this are still uncertain…I am not a politician, I am a civil servant and wish to continue serving the people,” he said.
Today, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong consented to the appointment of former High Court judge Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman as the new MACC Chief Commissioner, effective May 13.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the appointment is in line with Subsection 5(1) of the MACC Act or Act 694.
