Malaysian taxi industry veteran Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail, founder of Big Blue Taxi, has passed away at 60 after a long battle with colon cancer.
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail, the founder of premium taxi service Big Blue Taxi, died today at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. He was 60.
His wife, Datin Suzana Abdul Aziz, confirmed his death at 1.32 pm due to colon cancer. Shamsubahrin was first diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in 2015.
He had recovered but the illness recurred, leading to his hospitalisation three weeks ago. “Due to severe pain, he chose not to continue treatment, including dialysis and his condition worsened,” Suzana told Bernama.
She added that he started experiencing breathing difficulties around 5 am today. Shamsubahrin is survived by his wife and five children.
His remains will be taken to his mother’s home in Shah Alam. Funeral prayers will be held at Masjid Bukit Jelutong at 8 am tomorrow.
He will be buried at the Bukit Kiara Islamic Cemetery in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. A prominent figure in the local taxi industry, Shamsubahrin was known for his outspoken views.
He frequently commented on public transport and e-hailing issues in Malaysia.
