Buses become popular choice for tourists during Visit Malaysia 2026

Land transport, especially buses, is gaining popularity among tourists for domestic travel during the VM2026 campaign, offering comfort and convenience.

KUALA LUMPUR: Land transport services are emerging as a popular travel mode for tourists during the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign.

Buses are connecting visitors to major towns across the country, offering a practical and comfortable alternative to private vehicles.

Hospitality worker Nabilah Mazlan, 29, chose the bus from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur to save costs and avoid traffic.

“Travelling by bus is more comfortable and allows me to rest throughout the journey,” she said.

Sri Lankan tourist Naja Mohamed, 31, also found bus services made his holiday easier.

“It turned out to be really enjoyable and much more convenient than travelling by car,” he added.

The Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) is a key hub for this increased tourist movement.

TBS chief executive officer Shazwan Mohammad said the terminal is seeing a significant rise in visitor numbers.

“For this week alone, we are receiving about 30,000 to 40,000 visitors from across the states,” Shazwan stated.

He attributed the increase to the VM2026 campaign and the holiday season.

To accommodate the surge, TBS has implemented various facility improvements, including fully automated systems for ticket purchases.

“We provide digital ticket purchasing, including through self-service kiosks,” he explained.

The terminal is ready to support the government’s efforts to drive domestic and international tourism during VM2026.

Shazwan said TBS will continue to enhance its facilities and service quality.

Tourists arriving at TBS were welcomed with activities held in conjunction with the VM2026 celebrations.

The campaign officially kicked off with a countdown festival at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

It aims to attract 43 million international visitors and strengthen Malaysia’s position as a preferred global tourist destination.
