Chief secretary to lead special panel probing MACC chief

A special committee chaired by the chief secretary to the government will investigate allegations involving MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

PUTRAJAYA: The government has established a special committee to investigate allegations and related matters involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced the committee would be chaired by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, said the findings would be reported to the Cabinet for follow-up action upon completion.

“This is part of our effort to ensure transparency and integrity in conducting the investigation,” he said at his weekly press conference.

The investigation follows a Bloomberg report alleging Azam held millions of shares in a financial services company based on corporate filings.

Azam recently stressed at a press conference that his RM800,000 shareholding was acquired transparently and followed proper procedures.

He said the matter was fully declared and not concealed, adding the shares purchased last year were disposed of within the same year.
