AGC urges public to avoid speculation on Durian Tunggal shooting

The Attorney General’s Chambers warns against speculation on the Durian Tunggal shooting to protect the police investigation and ensure justice is served.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney General’s Chambers has urged the public not to speculate on a fatal shooting incident in Durian Tunggal, Melaka.

In a statement, the AGC warned that assumptions or sharing unverified information could undermine the investigation and erode public confidence.

“The investigation into this case is still being conducted by a special team of the Royal Malaysia Police at Bukit Aman,” the statement read.

It added that the integrity of the investigation must be preserved.

The AGC encouraged anyone with information or evidence to come forward and cooperate with authorities.

It assured that any prosecution decisions would be based on the law and evidence, without external influence.

“All parties are reminded to respect the judicial process in the interest of justice,” the statement said.

On December 16, the AGC ordered the investigation be reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier said the case would be investigated thoroughly and transparently.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail also assured an investigation with integrity.

The incident on November 24 resulted in the deaths of three men at an oil palm plantation.

Police reported one of the men allegedly swung a machete, seriously injuring a corporal.

However, on December 3, the victims’ family members denied allegations of violence against police.

Bukit Aman subsequently confirmed a special team was formed to investigate the family’s allegations.
