A Datuk-titled businessman denies cheating a woman of RM500,000 in a floor coating business investment scheme seven years ago.

KUALA LUMPUR: A businessman with the title “Datuk” pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to cheating a woman of RM500,000 seven years ago.

Ridzuan Abdullah, 38, was charged with dishonestly inducing the 49-year-old woman to transfer the money for a floor coating business investment.

The alleged offence occurred at Jalan Air Molek 1, Taman Tasik Titiwangsa between January 1 and July 10, 2018.

The charge falls under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of one to 10 years with whipping and a fine upon conviction.

Judge Norma Ismail granted Ridzuan bail of RM15,000 with one surety and ordered him to surrender his passport to the court.

The judge also required him to report monthly at a nearby police station and set January 5 for case mention and document submission.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal prosecuted the case while lawyer Najib Zakaria represented the accused.
