Muhyiddin Yassin wins temporary passport release for UK cancer treatment and family visit, with court-imposed travel restrictions.
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has granted former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin temporary release of his passport for medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin approved the 78-year-old’s application to travel from December 8, 2025, to January 5, 2026, for pancreatic cancer examination and family time.
“The application is allowed on the condition that the period for the passport’s return is adjusted,” said Judge Noor Ruwena.
The court reduced Muhyiddin’s requested transit time in Dubai from five days to just one or two days.
“The applicant booked his tickets before obtaining the court’s permission and, as such, he assumed the risk,” the judge noted, warning that lengthy transits could “open the floodgates” for similar applications.
Muhyiddin’s counsel, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, said his client needed the UK trip for annual follow-up medical examination for pancreatic cancer and to visit family.
The prosecution did not object to the medical travel but opposed the family visit component in Madrid.
Muhyiddin faces four charges of abusing his position to obtain RM232.5 million in gratification and two money laundering charges involving RM200 million.
This marks several occasions the court has allowed temporary passport release for Muhyiddin, including previous medical trips and family events.
