A runner pleads guilty to injuring sports journalist Haresh Deol, with bail set at RM2,000 and the case adjourned for sentencing on January 22.
KUALA LUMPUR: A runner has pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to injuring sports journalist Haresh Deol.
R. Krishnan, 37, was charged with intentionally causing injury to Haresh Singh Chain Sing, 43, in front of the Tanjung Balai Group building at Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar.
The offence occurred between 3.10 pm and 3.32 pm last Tuesday.
The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, which carries a maximum jail term of one year or a fine of up to RM2,000.
Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan set bail at RM2,000 in one surety and scheduled January 22 for case facts and sentencing.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Hench Goh had requested bail of RM4,000 in one surety.
Lawyer Mohamad Salihen Mastor, representing Krishnan, requested lower bail as his client earns RM40 daily as a runner.
“My client has to support his unemployed wife and six school-going children,” he said.
The lawyer also requested the additional condition that Krishnan reports to the police station.
Goh did not object to the additional reporting condition.
Haresh, who is also deputy president of the National Press Club, said in a social media post that he was attacked by two men while heading to his car.
Another individual recorded the incident using a mobile phone.
Haresh is a co-founder of the news portal TwentyTwo13.
