A 40-year-old teacher pleaded guilty to three counts of physical sexual assault against two male pupils at a Wangsa Maju religious school.
KUALA LUMPUR: A religious school teacher pleaded guilty to three charges of physically sexually assaulting two male pupils.
The 40-year-old Indonesian man, named Kumpul, was charged as a person in a position of trust for offences against the boys, aged 11 and 10.
The offences occurred at a religious primary school in Wangsa Maju between April 2024 and November 2025.
He was charged under Sections 14(a) and 16(1) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Section 14(a) carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and caning, while Section 16(1) prescribes up to five years’ jail and a minimum of two cane strokes.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Pervinah Mohamad Yusof did not offer bail, citing the accused as a flight risk.
She cited immigration records showing discrepancies in his passport information.
Judge Noridah Adam denied bail and set January 5 and 21, 2026, for the presentation of facts and sentencing.
The accused was unrepresented in court.
