Three Iranians plead not guilty to RM30,000 gold robbery

Three Iranian nationals, including a woman, deny gang robbery charges for allegedly stealing RM30,000 in gold from an elderly man in Kuala Lumpur.

KUALA LUMPUR: Three Iranian nationals have pleaded not guilty to a charge of gang robbery involving jewellery worth RM30,000.

The accused are 35-year-old Sahar Javanpour Ahmad, her 28-year-old nephew Arash Razmkhah, and 18-year-old Mahdi Javanpour.

They are alleged to have robbed an 81-year-old man of a gold ring and bracelet in front of a house in Taman Sri Petaling.

The offence is said to have occurred at 6.20 pm on Jan 9.

The charge, framed under Section 395 of the Penal Code, carries a potential penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine or whipping upon conviction.

Sessions Court Judge Mazuliana Abdul Rashid granted each accused bail of RM30,000 with two Malaysian sureties.

She also ordered them to surrender their passports to the court.

The case has been set for mention on Feb 27.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Noor Syafina Mohd Redzuan prosecuted, while lawyer K.Komagan represented the three Iranians.
