22-year-old arrested after police discover homemade ketum lab worth RM71,000

Police raid in Jaya Gading uncovers 52.9kg of ketum leaves, 547 packets of ketum juice and processing tools; suspect held under Poisons Act.

PETALING JAYA: A 22-year-old man was arrested after police uncovered a house in Jaya Gading, Kuantan, that had been converted into a ketum (kratom) processing centre, yielding an estimated value of RM71,000 worth of seized items.

The operation was carried out by the Southeast Brigade General Operations Force (PGA) at 11am on Nov 20 under Op Taring Mitra, following intellgience that the premises were being used to boil, package and distribute ketum.

“The inspection uncovered 52.90kg of ketum leaves and 547 packets of processed ketum drink, estimated at 437.6 litres, found inside the house and the suspect’s vehicle.

“Several ketum-processing tools were also seized,” PGA stated in their official Facebook page.

PGA also stated the items – including the suspect’s vehicle – were valued at RM71,000 and were handed over to the Kuantan district police headquarters for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, which criminalises the possession and processing of ketum.

Police said initial investigations indicated the location was used as a small-scale processing hub supplying ketum juice to nearby areas.
