Three cars belonging to Malaysian activist Cikgu Chandra were set ablaze at 3am in a suspected targeted arson attack.
PETALING JAYA: Three vehicles belonging to controversial activist S.Chandrasegaran popularly as Cikgu Chandra were destroyed in a suspected arson attack, believed to have been carried out by a group of unidentified men in the early hours of the morning.
Independent preacher Firdaus Wong Wai Hung, who shared photos of the burning vehicles on Facebook, stated that the incident took place at approximately 3am, when all three of Cikgu Chandra’s cars were set on fire.
“Fortunately, the police and fire brigade arrived quickly to extinguish the flames and bring the situation under control,” he said.
Firdaus added that Cikgu Chandra contacted him at around 5.30am to inform him that police had cordoned off the area surrounding his home and were ensuring the safety of his family. He expressed confidence that authorities would apprehend the suspects, masterminds, and those who incited the attack in the near future.
This latest incident follows a previous attack on Cikgu Chandra’s residence in Puchong, where a group of men smashed the windows of his car and home. That assault occurred just days after prominent independent preacher Zamri Vinoth was similarly attacked by a group of men while he was inside his vehicle in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
On the afternoon prior to the arson, Cikgu Chandra’s home in Taman Kinrara, Puchong, was stormed by a group of masked men armed with machetes.
Cikgu Chandra, 47, recounted that the attack took place at around 3.30pm while he was at home with his two children.
He noticed two unidentified men opening the gate of his property. The suspects, wearing black masks and carrying machetes, proceeded to smash the rear windscreen of his Perodua Viva and damaged the iron grille at the front of the house.
“The moment I realised they were there, I immediately shut the front door. They continued knocking for nearly three minutes,” he told Harian Metro.
“At the time, I was in the dining area. I called the emergency line 999 straight away because I was afraid for myself and my family.”
His two children were inside the house during the ordeal, while his wife was at work. Neighbours reportedly informed him that approximately six individuals arrived in two separate vehicles.
“I never expected something like this to happen to me. This is blatant violent crime,” he said.
Cikgu Chandra confirmed that a police report was lodged at the Bandar Kinrara police station. “I made the report to protect myself and my family, as I am concerned something more serious could happen in the future,” he added.
He also disclosed that he had been attacked on previous occasions, including incidents in December 2022 and October 2024, the latter of which resulted in serious injuries to his hand.
