Property consultant loses over RM600,000 to WhatsApp investment scam

A 71-year-old property consultant in Pahang lost RM622,161 after being tricked by a fake investment scheme promising 50% profits via WhatsApp.

KUANTAN: An elderly property consultant was defrauded of RM622,161 after falling for a non-existent investment offer promoted through WhatsApp.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the 71-year-old victim was deceived by a suspect on October 16, 2025, with an offer promising profits of up to 50%.

The victim was then invited to participate in an investment called ‘JMC M Trading Venture’ and instructed to download an application via a link provided by the suspect.

Between October 27 and December 27, 2025, the victim made 16 money transfers totalling RM622,161 to four different bank accounts using his personal savings.

Yahaya said the victim received an initial return of RM140,889, but this money was reinvested on the suspect’s instructions.

The victim only realised he had been scammed after being asked to increase his investment capital by RM1 million to supposedly enable the withdrawal of all profits.

Yahaya advised the public to seek advice from their nearest police station before making any investment to avoid becoming fraud victims.

He also reminded the public to check any received account number first at the link https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my/ before making a transaction. – Bernama
