Couple behind 21 car break-ins across Kelantan arrested by police

Police arrest couple responsible for 21 car break-ins in Kelantan over one year, causing over RM100,000 in losses. Suspects targeted CCTV-free lots.

KOTA BHARU: Police have arrested a couple responsible for 21 car break-ins across Kelantan over the past year, causing losses exceeding RM100,000.

The suspects, aged 36 and 47, were detained on Saturday in front of a 7-Eleven convenience store at Jalan Sri Cemerlang following another window-smashing incident.

Their arrest came after they damaged a vehicle at Eco Supermarket’s parking lot on Jalan Wakaf Mek Zainab, causing RM1,500 in losses.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed officers seized a mobile phone, tablet, laptop, seven bags, three bank cards, a Perodua Bezza, a spanner, and a ring.

“Investigations revealed they had been active for the past year, and the male suspect admitted to training several new recruits,” he said.

Mohd Yusoff explained their modus operandi involved targeting parking lots without CCTV cameras to avoid detection.

The male suspect had three previous drug-related offences while his partner had no prior criminal record.

Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine during arrest.

The court granted a four-day remand order for the couple, who are being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

In a separate case, police arrested a 43-year-old policeman for allegedly committing robbery using a fake pistol.

The suspect was detained during a raid at a house in Pengkalan Chepa yesterday following a November 10 incident where he threatened a female shop employee.

Officers seized two motorcycles, a fake pistol, 12 red pills suspected to be drugs, and two face masks during the operation.

The suspect also tested positive for drugs and is believed to have committed four other robberies using the same intimidation method.

This case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code and Sections 12(2) and 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – Bernama
