Police and prison officers rearrested a 26-year-old inmate who escaped custody in Kluang, Johor, less than an hour after he was reported missing.
JOHOR BAHRU: An inmate who escaped from custody in Kluang was recaptured by authorities in less than an hour.
Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said a report was received at 4.25 pm yesterday from an officer at the Prison Department’s Resident Reintegration Centre on Jalan Mersing.
Police and prison personnel immediately launched a joint operation to track down the suspect.
A Prison Department team successfully rearrested the 26-year-old local male inmate at 5.30 pm near a chicken coop in Kampung Sri Timur.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Penal Code for escaping custody.
It is also being probed under Section 224 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
A viral social media post earlier showed a photo of an individual believed to be the escaped inmate being guarded by three people in an oil palm area. – Bernama
