A 45-year-old farmer is believed to have been killed, with the suspect arrested by police.
JERLUN: A 45-year-old farmer is believed to have been killed after he was allegedly attacked with a machete by his brother-in-law in Kampung Pida 3 this evening.
Kubang Pasu District Police chief Superintendent Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim confirmed that police received a report about a fight between two men from a member of the public at approximately 7.05 pm.
Police arrested the suspect at his house and seized a 30-centimetre machete believed to be the murder weapon.
Officers discovered the victim’s body lying in a nearby paddy field shortly after arriving at the scene.
The suspect attempted to attack police officers with the weapon while they were making the arrest.
Mohd Radzi revealed that the suspect surrendered peacefully after police spent 15 minutes persuading him to drop the weapon.
Neither the victim nor the suspect had any previous criminal records according to police checks.
Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the brutal attack.
The victim’s body has been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for a post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Mohd Radzi reminded the public not to spread unverified information about the incident through social media or other channels. – Bernama
