A foreign woman is under investigation for filing a false police report about a RM10,000 robbery in Genting Highlands to hide gambling losses from her boyfriend.
KUANTAN: A foreign woman is being investigated for making a false police report after claiming she was robbed of RM10,000.
Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the 25-year-old woman claimed two foreign women robbed her in front of a hotel lift.
“However, the investigation found that the reported robbery incident did not take place based on a review of CCTV camera footage,” he said in a statement.
Further investigations revealed the woman had gambled at a casino and lost RM10,000.
She made the false report to avoid being scolded by her boyfriend, said Zaiham.
The suspect also failed to present any identification documents during the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information.
The offence carries a penalty of up to six months’ jail, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both.
The woman is also being probed under the Immigration Act for not possessing a valid passport.
That offence carries a fine of up to RM10,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
