Johor Immigration Department detained 74 illegal immigrants from Indonesia, Myanmar and Bangladesh during Operation Sapu raids in Taman Senai Baru.
JOHOR BAHRU: The Immigration Department has detained 74 foreign nationals during raids under Operation Sapu at 10 houses in Taman Senai Baru.
Johor Immigration Director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said those arrested comprised 53 men and 21 women from Indonesia, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.
Their ages ranged from two months to 47 years old.
The raid involved 40 officers and enforcement personnel and was conducted at 12.45 am following continuous intelligence and monitoring of two-storey homes in the area.
“During the operation, some attempted to flee or hide, but were successfully apprehended,” Mohd Rusdi said in a statement.
All detainees are suspected of committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
They were sent to the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further investigation. – Bernama
