JPJ collects RM1.39 million from 4,634 summonses for VEP offences at the Malaysia-Singapore border, with RM300 fines for non-compliance.
JOHOR BAHRU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has collected RM1.39 million in fines through its Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) enforcement operation at the Malaysia-Singapore border.
A total of 4,634 summonses were issued from July 1 to last Thursday for various VEP-related offences.
JPJ inspected 65,039 Singapore-registered vehicles during this period at the Sultan Iskandar Building, Sultan Abu Bakar Complex, and surrounding Johor Bahru areas.
Summonses targeted vehicles that were unregistered, had expired VEPs, or were still in pre-registration status.
“Owners of these vehicles will be issued a fine and must settle the summons as well as register their VEP before leaving Malaysia,” JPJ stated.
This enforcement action falls under Section 66J of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Drivers entering Malaysia without a valid VEP risk being fined RM300.
JPJ also reported that 345,238 radio-frequency identification tags have been issued to date.
Of these, 292,692 tags for individual private vehicles are active, while 16,404 remain inactive.
For company-owned private vehicles, 28,344 tags are active with 7,798 yet to be activated. – Bernama
