Kedah school bullying cases surge 330% in 2025, police report

Kedah police recorded 43 school bullying cases in 2025, a sharp 330% increase, with 31 bullies arrested and 11 already charged in court

ALOR SETAR: School bullying cases in Kedah surged to 43 in 2025, a sharp increase from the 10 cases recorded the previous year.

Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah described the 330% rise as an alarming figure.

He said 32 of the bullying incidents occurred in secondary schools, with nine in primary schools and two in private institutions.

A total of 31 bullies were arrested during the period, with 11 already charged in court.

“I would like to issue a stern reminder that there is no protection for any criminal act, even if the perpetrator is a minor or a school student,” Adzli said.

He emphasised that the law would be enforced without compromise during a visit to Sultan Abdul Hamid College.

The police chief also addressed the concerning number of rape cases involving underage victims in the state.

A total of 90 rape cases were recorded in Kedah throughout 2025, with 78 occurring in secondary schools and 12 involving primary school pupils.

Adzli stated the situation was extremely worrying and required serious attention.

Investigations found most rape cases involved school students and were linked to social problems and moral decay.

Factors included unsupervised free mixing, abuse of trust, and negligence in observing social boundaries.

“Every student must understand that no one has the right to touch, coerce or take advantage of them, whether physically, emotionally or through social media,” he advised.

He urged victims not to remain silent and to report immediately to teachers, parents, guardians, or Education Department officers.
