KL JPJ seizes four bikes, issues 65 summonses in late-night op

Kuala Lumpur JPJ cracks down on illegal bike modifications, seizing four motorcycles and issuing 65 summonses in a late-night weekend operation.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized four motorcycles and issued 65 summonses in a late-night weekend operation targeting illegal modifications.

The operation, focused on the city centre, took place from 2 am on Saturday to 5 am on Sunday.

JPJ Kuala Lumpur director Hamidi Adam said the summonses were for offences including non-compliant registration numbers, driving without a licence, and expired vehicle licences.

Other offences included motorcycles with no rear brakes and those displaying fake registration numbers.

The four seized motorcycles were held for offences such as failing safety specifications and having licences expired since 2011.

One seized bike also had 11 outstanding summonses.

Hamidi said enforcement against modified and high-risk motorcycles will be intensified next year.

The focus will be on city centre hotspots during late-night hours when such activities are common.

“The Kuala Lumpur JPJ also calls on the public to relay information on road violations through official channels to help in enforcement action,” he added.

The operation involved eight JPJ officers and 12 personnel from the Kuala Lumpur police traffic department.
