Kuala Lumpur JSPT warns public over fake Aidilfitri donation letter

Kuala Lumpur traffic police deny issuing a fraudulent letter soliciting Hari Raya donations, urging the public to verify any such requests.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) has issued a stern warning over a fake letter soliciting donations for a Hari Raya Aidilfitri event.

The department’s chief, ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, confirmed no such official letter was ever issued to request contributions from the public.

He said the fraudulent letter was detected circulating via WhatsApp yesterday evening. It used an official-looking letterhead from the Traffic and Transport Branch of the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters.

The letter was purportedly signed by an individual named ‘Supt Jamil bin Abdul’. A check of police records confirmed no officer by that name exists within the Kuala Lumpur traffic branch or the wider Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

Mohd Zamzuri stated the distribution of the letter is believed to be a scam aimed at deceiving the public. He warned it was an attempt to fraudulently obtain donations and potentially damage the force’s credibility.

A police report has been lodged to enable an investigation under relevant legal provisions. The public is advised to be extremely vigilant and not be fooled by any dubious donation requests.

For confirmation, the public can contact Kuala Lumpur JSPT directly at 03-2071 9999, the JSPT Hotline at 03-2026 0267/0269, or any nearby police station.
