Langkawi boat capsize death toll rises to 25

The search for victims of the Langkawi boat tragedy continues as three more bodies were recovered, bringing the total fatalities to 25.

LANGKAWI: The death toll from the boat capsize incident in Malaysia-Thailand border waters near Langkawi has increased to 25 after three more bodies were discovered this afternoon.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Kedah and Perlis director First Admiral (Maritime) Romli Mustafa confirmed a Marine Police Force boat located a man’s body near Pulau Rebak Besar at 3:16 pm.

“At 3:20 pm, the Fire and Rescue Department found another male body in waters near Tanjung Hulor,” he said in a statement today.

Minutes later, a Fire and Rescue Department aircraft spotted a third male body also near Pulau Rebak Besar.

All recovered victims were transported to a nearby jetty and handed over to police for further procedures.

Today’s search operation was suspended at 7:30 pm and will resume tomorrow morning at 7:30 am. – Bernama
