The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency is boosting patrols in high-risk hotspots to combat maritime crimes, including the smuggling of illegal immigrants.
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is intensifying patrols and enforcement in high-risk hotspots identified as key routes for maritime crimes.
This includes combating the smuggling of illegal immigrants and migrants, the agency said in a statement.
MMEA Director-General Maritime Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said the effort is among the agency’s strategic measures to ensure the safety and sovereignty of national waters.
“Maritim Malaysia (MMEA)’s leadership at all levels has now been instructed to give full attention to operational monitoring, patrol effectiveness and enforcement readiness heading into 2026,” he said.
He said MMEA welcomes the call by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to take immediate action on issues causing public concern.
This includes matters involving illegal immigrants and migrant smuggling.
Commenting on the matter, Mohd Rosli said MMEA will not compromise on such activities and will tighten sea surveillance.
He added that the agency will increase patrols and ensure firm action is taken against any party attempting to infiltrate through the country’s maritime zones.
With enhanced monitoring and more aggressive enforcement, MMEA is confident that the security of the nation’s waters will be strengthened.
