A mother and aunt were arrested for questioning after a six-year-old boy drowns in an Alor Gajah hot spring pool.
ALOR GAJAH: Police have detained the mother and aunt of a six-year-old boy who drowned in a hot spring pool here.
The 27-year-old mother and 22-year-old aunt were held to assist in the investigation, said Alor Gajah police chief Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar.
“They are believed to have been at the scene of the incident,” he told reporters.
The two women are expected to be released on police bail later today to allow the family to manage the boy’s funeral arrangements.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for abuse, neglect, abandonment or exposure of a child.
The boy was found unconscious in the adult section of the pool by members of the public at about 7.40 pm yesterday.
He was pronounced dead at 8.24 pm while receiving treatment at Alor Gajah Hospital.
