Namewee remand extended 3 days in influencer death probe

Malaysian rapper Namewee’s detention prolonged as police probe death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian rapper and filmmaker Wee Meng Chee, widely recognised by his stage name Namewee, will remain in police custody for an additional three days as authorities continue investigating the death of Taiwanese social media personality Hsieh Yu-hsin.

Joshua Tay, Namewee’s legal representative, confirmed to Malay Mail that the detention extension took effect today following the expiration of the original remand order.

The 31-year-old Hsieh was discovered deceased in a hotel bathroom on Jalan Conlay on October 22. She had been staying at the premises with the 42-year-old entertainer at the time.

The rapper voluntarily presented himself to authorities on November 5 and was initially placed under remand for five days of questioning.

Police are pursuing the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which addresses murder charges.

However, law enforcement has not yet determined the cause of death, as they await toxicology analyses and post-mortem examination results—a process anticipated to span several months.

Initial examinations reportedly found no obvious indicators of physical confrontation or wounds. Hsieh maintained an online presence under the aliases Iris Hsieh and the “Nurse Goddess.”
