Ops Pantau deploys 99 officers to curb profiteering in KL

Kuala Lumpur KPDN deploys 99 officers for Ops Pantau to monitor prices and prevent profiteering at Ramadan bazaars until March 20.

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 99 enforcement officers from the Kuala Lumpur Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) have been deployed under ‘Ops Pantau’.

The operation aims to ensure price compliance and curb profiteering during Ramadan and the period leading up to Aidilfitri.

Kuala Lumpur KPDN Director Mohd Sabri Seman said the operation involves monitoring all Ramadan bazaars. Inspections will focus on the display of price tags, compliance with measurements, and the use of verified weighing instruments.

“We want to ensure that no traders overcharge or engage in profiteering,” he said. He added that clear price tags are needed to avoid consumer confusion or attempts to take advantage through price disparities.

He also stressed the need to ensure all weighing instruments have been verified. “There have been cases of traders manipulating scales,” he told reporters after checks at the Taman Tasik Permaisuri RAHMAH Ramadan Bazaar.

Ops Pantau started yesterday and will continue until March 20. Its goal is to ensure the supply and prices of goods remain controlled.

The operation covers various locations including retail premises, farmers’ markets, and night markets. It also monitors *pasar tamu*, supermarkets, bazaars, and online sales platforms.

Mohd Sabri warned that traders could face compounds for offences under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
