PM condemns assault on journalist Haresh Deol

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim condemns the assault on journalist Haresh Deol, emphasising no violence against media personnel performing their duties.

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has condemned the assault on sportswriter and National Press Club deputy president Haresh Deol.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the Prime Minister emphasised at today’s Cabinet meeting that there should never be any violence against journalists performing their duties.

“We will leave it to the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation,” Fahmi told a media conference after the meeting.

Haresh was assaulted by two individuals in Bangsar on Tuesday, with one recording the attack on a mobile phone.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed yesterday that a suspect had been arrested and was believed to have targeted the wrong person.

Initial investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a personal motive involving alleged harassment of the suspect’s wife.

AWC posts steady Q1 revenue at RM97.6m, expects momentum to strengthen in coming quarters

AWC Bhd reported a 3.4% year-on-year increase in revenue to RM97.6 million for the first quarter of FY26, driven by stronger contributions from its engineering division. Net profit, however, eased to RM4.1 million due to slower project progress in the Middle East under the environment division. Despite the softer start, the group remains optimistic, backed by RM270 million in new contract wins for FY26 and a robust order book of RM528 million, positioning AWC for improved performance in the months ahead.
