Police arrest suspect in Bangsar journalist assault case

Police detain 37-year-old man in Cheras to assist investigation into attack on National Press Club deputy president Haresh Deol in Bangsar

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man to assist investigations into yesterday’s assault on sportswriter and National Press Club deputy president Haresh Deol in Bangsar.

Brickfields police chief ACP Hoo Chang Kook said the 37-year-old suspect was detained at his Cheras residence by a CID team from Brickfields Police Headquarters at approximately 2 am today.

The Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court issued a three-day remand order lasting until Friday.

Investigations continue to determine the motive behind the attack.

Yesterday, Hoo stated police were tracking three men believed involved in the 3 pm incident.

Haresh sustained facial, hand, and body injuries after falling while attempting to escape his attackers.

The journalist, who co-founded news portal TwentyTwo13, filed a police report at 4 pm the same day.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
