Three men arrested following 50km police pursuit over cable theft in Balik Pulau, with one suspect still at large and tools seized as evidence

BALIK PULAU: Police arrested three men following a 50-kilometre chase over suspected cable theft in Botanica City earlier today.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the District Control Centre received a call around 4.30am reporting a suspicious Perodua Bezza with four occupants.

“Based on the information, the four men were believed to be stealing cables in the area,” he said in a statement.

The suspects fled when a Mobile Patrol Vehicle team arrived, triggering a pursuit across multiple districts.

Several police teams were deployed to intercept the vehicle before it skidded at the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge exit towards South Seberang Perai.

Police apprehended three local men at the scene, while a fourth suspect escaped and remains at large.

The suspects and their vehicle were taken to the Southwest district police headquarters for further investigation.

Officers also seized various tools believed to have been used for cable theft.

All three arrested suspects have been remanded under Sections 379, 511, and 186 of the Penal Code.

The case involves theft, attempting to commit offences, and obstructing public servants in discharge of their duty. – Bernama
