Terengganu police are probing a viral claim that a man was beaten by officers during a traffic operation, with the chief vowing no protection for any guilty personnel.
KUALA NERUS: Police have opened an investigation into viral allegations that a man was assaulted by officers during a recent Ops Samseng Jalanan in Dungun.
Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin confirmed an investigation paper was initiated under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
“We have received a report regarding the incident, and investigations will be carried out,” he said at a press conference.
“If the findings confirm that the allegation is true and involves police personnel, I will not protect any perpetrator and firm action will be taken.”
The probe follows a social media post showing images of an injured man, allegedly beaten during the traffic enforcement operation.
Mohd Khairi stated police have seen a related viral video but confirmed the alleged beating was not visible in the footage.
He has instructed the Dungun district police chief to conduct further investigations, including identifying all individuals involved.
Investigations are ongoing, with the complainant being called in to give his statement.
Police are also seeking information from any witnesses to the incident.
