Home Minister says police are monitoring a South Korean cult movement active in Malaysia, noting it involves local figures but is not yet a security threat
KULIM: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed police are monitoring a deviant cult movement from South Korea reportedly active in Malaysia.
He stated the movement has not yet reached a level considered a threat to national security.
“I have been briefed by the Special Branch on the organisation, its activities, the involvement of local figures, and so forth,” he told reporters after launching a programme here.
Saifuddin Nasution said the movement’s activities generally appear harmless at first glance.
He added that continuous police monitoring remains to detect any activities that could compromise security.
“Perhaps because of the way it presents itself, it has drawn the involvement of some political figures,” he said.
The minister was commenting on an investigation following claims by Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, who highlighted the cult’s existence. – Bernama
