Family members of three men shot dead in Durian Tunggal have given statements to police, handing over a phone with an alleged audio recording
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded statements from family members of the three individuals shot dead by officers in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, last month.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said three family members arrived with their lawyers today.
A mobile phone believed to contain an audio recording linked to the case was handed over to investigators.
A voice sample from a witness was also taken with the assistance of CyberSecurity Malaysia for analysis.
Kumar said the special investigation team has so far recorded statements from seven witnesses.
These comprise three family members and four medical officers.
He stressed the investigation would be conducted fairly and professionally in accordance with the law.
“The police are committed to upholding transparency and integrity in all investigations,” Kumar said.
He added that police would not tolerate any form of misconduct.
On November 24, three men aged between 24 and 29 were shot dead after one allegedly swung a machete at an officer.
The incident at an oil palm plantation left a police corporal with serious injuries to his left arm.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspects were believed to be members of the Durian Tunggal Gang.
They were allegedly on their way to commit a robbery at the time.
The gang had been active since 2024, linked to 20 cases in Melaka and others in Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.
These cases involved losses totalling RM1.35 million.
On December 3, family members disputed claims the victims acted violently by attacking police.
Police subsequently formed a special team to investigate the allegations raised by the dissatisfied families. – Bernama
