ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have solved an extortion case involving an abducted Indian national within 24 hours.
Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP M Kumarasan said a report was lodged by the victim’s friend at about 11.08pm on Monday.
The complainant stated his 46-year-old friend had been abducted by unknown individuals from a Gelang Patah hotel.
A suspect later contacted the complainant and demanded a RM5,000 payment for the victim’s release.
Acting on information, a police team tracked down and rescued the victim in Gelang Patah at about 12.15 am on Tuesday.
Officers then arrested a local man and a woman, aged between 26 and 32, in Permas Jaya at 1 am the same day.

Urine screening tests found both suspects tested positive for syabu.
Police also seized a car, three mobile phones, jewellery with receipts, a laptop, and several documents.
“The results of the investigation found that the victim was tricked and blackmailed by three suspects,” said Kumarasan.
He confirmed the group consisted of two men and one local woman, with one male suspect still at large.
Both detained suspects have been remanded for six days until Jan 25.
