KUANTAN: A senior police officer has been remanded for five days until May 2 to assist in investigations into claims that he solicited and received bribes amounting to about RM64,000 as an inducement to protect unlicensed entertainment outlets in a district in Pahang.

The remand order against the male suspect was issued by Magistrate Ellyna Mahussin following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Kuantan Magistrate’s Court this morning.

According to a source, the suspect, in his 50s, was detained at his residence at about 2 pm yesterday.

“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect is believed to have committed the offence between 2020 and 2023 while serving in one of the districts in the state.

“The suspect is believed to have received monthly bribes from two entertainment outlet owners through cash transactions into his personal bank account,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Pahang MACC director Mohd Shukor Mahmud confirmed the arrest and that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
