Taiping woman loses RM256,000 in part-time job scam

A Taiping woman was cheated out of over RM250,000 after being lured by an online part-time job offer promising profits from product sales.

TAIPING: A 46-year-old woman lost RM255,948 after being deceived by an online part-time job scam.

The scam lured her with promises of profits from buying and selling products on a specific website.

Taiping police chief ACP Mohamad Nasir Ismail said the victim finally lodged a police report yesterday evening.

She was prompted to act after being unable to withdraw her money and having her phone line blocked by the suspects.

According to the victim, she first received a WhatsApp message with a job offer link on Aug 29.

She then followed the suspect’s instructions and made 20 money transfers to 10 different bank accounts between Sept 1 and Dec 5.

The total amount lost was RM255,948. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

In a separate statement, police are seeking a witness named C. Harvienraj, 18, to assist in an unrelated trial.

They have asked anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact investigating officer Sjn Khairul Anwar Zawawi.
