A teacher in Jertih has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and six strokes of the cane for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old male student.
JERTIH: A teacher has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and six strokes of the cane for committing physical sexual assault on a 15-year-old male student.
Judge Ahmad Fadhli Mahmud delivered the sentence to Anuar Yusoff, 48, after finding him guilty of the offence.
Anuar faced three counts of committing the offence and received a 10-year prison sentence with two strokes of the cane on each count, to be served concurrently from today.
The court also ordered the accused to undergo counselling during his imprisonment and to be placed under police supervision for two years after completing his prison sentence.
Ahmad Fadhli stated that after examining the evidence and arguments from both the defence and prosecution, the court found the defence had failed to raise any reasonable doubt.
The judge noted that the accused, as a teacher, should have protected the victim rather than taking advantage of him to indulge his lust, particularly since the victim was of the same sex.
He emphasised that the accused betrayed the trust placed in him by committing sexual acts on the victim, leaving the victim traumatised.
Anuar was charged with three counts of committing physical sexual assault on the 15-year-old boy in a room at a resort on Pulau Perhentian.
The offences occurred at 3 pm on July 29, 2022, and at 1 am and 5 am on July 30, 2022.
The charge was brought under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and caning upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Akmal Mohd Jazlee represented the prosecution in the case.
Anuar was represented by his lawyer, Nik Ismail Nik Lah, during the court proceedings. – Bernama
