Terengganu records zero murders and armed robberies in two years

Terengganu police chief reports no murder or armed robbery cases for two years, though commercial crime and some sexual offences have increased.

KUALA NERUS: Terengganu has recorded no murder or armed robbery cases over the past two years, underscoring the state’s stable security situation.

State police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin attributed this success to the effectiveness and commitment of his personnel in curbing crime.

“This achievement proves that Terengganu can be categorised as a safe state,” he said at a press conference here today.

However, he noted an increase in rape and incest cases, with 94 recorded in 2025 compared to 90 the previous year.

He said most victims were teenagers aged between 13 and 16, influenced by exposure to pornography and social media.

Mohd Khairi clarified that any sexual act with an individual under 16 is legally categorised as rape, even if consensual.

Theft remains the highest contributor to crime, though cases declined from 741 in 2024 to 674 in 2025.

He stated that theft and house break-ins are under control and not at an alarming level.

The main current challenge is commercial crime, especially online scams targeting retirees.

“Commercial crime is seen as more critical than violent crime,” he added.

Reported commercial crime cases rose from 1,335 in 2024 to 2,046 in 2025, an increase of 53.25%.
