Two arrested over Melaka arson cases, multiple incidents solved

Police arrest man and woman for arson in Melaka, solving three fire mischief cases and one paint-splashing incident in the area

MELAKA: Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a mischief by fire case at Lorong Laksamana Cheng Hoe, Bukit Cina.

Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit said CCTV footage showed a vehicle repeatedly driving around the housing area around 1.45 am on November 11.

“A man was then seen walking towards a house and throwing a lit object into the compound,” he said in a statement.

The fire damaged the victim’s vehicle before being extinguished.

Following investigation and intelligence work, police arrested a 26-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman in Kajang and Serdang, Selangor last Monday evening.

Christopher said the arrests have helped solve at least three mischief by fire cases and one paint-splashing incident involving houses around Melaka Tengah.

The incidents occurred between July and November this year.

Both suspects have been remanded until next Tuesday to assist investigations under Section 436 of the Penal Code.
