CUEPACS advises civil servants to manage their RM18 billion salary increase prudently, prioritising needs over wants and improving public service delivery.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) has reminded civil servants to manage their salary increase with prudence and discipline.
President Datuk Dr Adnan Mat said the adjustment reflects the government’s appreciation for public servants’ contributions to efficient and integrity-driven services.
He noted the Prime Minister’s statement that the increase was implemented based on the country’s financial capacity.
The total expenditure implication is estimated at RM18 billion.
“CUEPACS advises public servants to manage the increase in income prudently and with discipline, prioritising basic household needs as well as long-term financial planning,” Adnan said in a statement.
He warned that higher income should not lead to excessive spending that creates financial pressure.
Adnan also expressed appreciation to the government for implementing the second phase of a 7% salary increase this month under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA).
He said this reflects the government’s seriousness in ensuring civil servants’ welfare while aligning with fiscal responsibilities.
“In return for the trust and substantial investment by the government, CUEPACS hopes that public servants will continue to improve work performance, strengthen integrity, enhance productivity, and deliver the best possible services to the people,” he added.
CUEPACS called for continued support for the public service reform agenda and loyalty to the government.
Civil servants opting for the SSPA will receive the second phase of adjustments in their Jan 22 salary payment.
The increase is calculated based on their final salary as at Dec 31, 2025.
Under the first phase in December 2024, the Executive and Management groups received an 8% increase.
The Top Management Group received a 4% increase.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said earlier that public service quality must align with the improved SSPA.
He stated the people are entitled to more efficient and faster services.
