Malaysia invited by Egypt and France to co-convene Gaza reconstruction efforts, with a special conference planned in Cairo this month.

KUALA LUMPUR: Egypt and France have invited Malaysia to serve as a co-convenor in the reconstruction efforts for Gaza.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan stated he received the invitation from his counterparts in both countries through phone calls.

He confirmed his attendance at an upcoming conference in Cairo to ensure Malaysia can contribute to rebuilding Gaza.

Mohamad made these remarks while winding up the debate on the 2026 Supply Bill for the Foreign Ministry in the Dewan Rakyat.

He was responding to a suggestion by Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh that a special fund be created under the Budget for Gaza’s reconstruction.

A special conference on Gaza’s reconstruction led by France and Egypt will be held in Cairo at the end of this month.

The United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution supporting the New York Declaration on September 12.

This resolution aims to recognise a Palestinian state and advance the two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

It was adopted with 142 votes in favour, 10 against and 12 abstentions.

Mohamad added that Malaysia is always prepared to send military personnel to join a UN peacekeeping mission in Gaza.

He clarified that such deployment requires a clear mandate and invitation from the United Nations.

Malaysia has consistently participated in UN peacekeeping forces whenever invited and mandated. – Bernama
