Eight Melaka transport companies lose licences after failing JPJ audits

MELAKA: Eight bus and lorry transport companies in Melaka have had their operating licences suspended after failing to meet requirements in the Road Transport Department’s Vehicle Inspection and Safety Audit System audits conducted throughout this year.

JPJ Melaka director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop stated this action resulted from enforcement and auditing under Section 230 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.

“The JISA audits by the Commercial Vehicle Inspection and Control Unit were implemented through four categories: Road Accident Audit, Periodic and Targeted Audit, Follow-up or Post-Action Audit, and Complaint Audit.”

“From 73 companies audited, 45 companies were found to have failed, while 28 companies passed, and eight of them faced operator licence suspension actions,” she said after the Public Auction of Deregistered Vehicles No. 2/2025 programme at Dewan Tun Fatimah in Bukit Katil today.

Siti Zarina further explained that JISA auditing aims to ensure operator companies comply with safety aspects and management of commercial and public transport vehicle operations.

She said operator companies must also comply with seven mandatory requirements to avoid suspension or cancellation of licences by the Land Public Transport Agency.

“Among the mandatory requirements include appointing occupational safety and health officers, installing and monitoring global positioning systems on all vehicles during operations, ensuring driving hours do not exceed eight hours daily with at least 30 minutes rest for every four hours of driving, providing emergency response plans, and displaying company hotline numbers on vehicles for complaint purposes.”

Siti Zarina stated JPJ Melaka will continue intensifying auditing and monitoring of operator companies to ensure continuous compliance with established regulations.

Meanwhile, she reported collection from the Public Auction of Deregistered Vehicles No. 2/2025 session held today amounted to 103,489 ringgit involving 52 vehicles with participation from 54 bidders.

“Among vehicles auctioned were 40 motorcycles, eight cars, two window vans, one rigid cargo lorry, and one semi-trailer that received deregistration orders from Central Melaka, Alor Gajah, and Jasin Courts.”

“A Daihatsu Copen car recorded the highest bid of 25,000 ringgit, while a Honda motorcycle recorded the lowest bid of 150 ringgit.” – Bernama
