Dashcam shows toll barrier dropping on driver’s car at NPE, sparking safety concerns online
A driver went through a frightening moment when his car was struck by a toll barrier right after making payment earlier today.
Dashcam footage showed RM2.30 being deducted from his debit card, and the barrier lifted to allow passage. However, within just two seconds, the barrier suddenly dropped and hit the car’s windscreen.
The driver, identified on TikTok as Fendy Roos, said the incident happened at the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) toll plaza at about 8.21am.
“After tapping my debit card, the barrier opened. But as I drove forward, it suddenly came down. Thank God the windscreen didn’t shatter,” he explained.
He added that he managed to brake in time to avoid a more serious impact. “It hit slightly, but I stopped immediately. Luckily, no car was behind me. I use this toll daily, and this is the first time it happened,” he said.
The video, widely shared online, sparked reactions from many users urging the highway operator to investigate and ensure toll barriers are safe and functioning properly.
One user NORA said she had experience a similar incident at the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) highway which completely scared her.
