Federal Territories flag campaign kicks off in Labuan to boost patriotism

The FT flag hoisting campaign runs until Feb 28, aiming to strengthen patriotic spirit and community participation ahead of Federal Territory Day.

LABUAN: The Federal Territories Flag Hoisting Campaign launched today aims to strengthen patriotism and foster community participation among residents.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Lo Su Fui said the campaign provides an opportunity for all segments of society to enliven Federal Territory Day celebrations.

“The hoisting of the Federal Territories flag at strategic locations is aimed at nurturing a stronger sense of patriotism and pride among the people of Labuan,” he said at the launch at the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex.

The campaign, running from January 17 to February 28, marks the official kick-off for the Federal Territory Day Celebration 2026.

A total of 12,500 Federal Territories flags of various sizes have been distributed by Labuan Corporation to 27 villages across the island.

Lo said the positive community response demonstrates the celebration is inclusive and people-centric.

He also called on the public to support the ‘Federal Territories Lighting’ initiative from January 26 to February 28.

This initiative will see commercial buildings illuminated to enhance urban vibrancy and attract visitors.

Lo said the lighting would support the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign and strengthen Labuan’s image as an international tourism destination.

Labuan Corporation chief executive officer Mohd Sukuran Taib said the flag campaign is a symbolic starting point for the celebration.

He said its objectives include instilling civic pride and promoting unity and cooperation across generations.

A wide range of activities has been lined up to enliven the celebration across the island.

These include a fun walk, treasure hunt, flag-hoisting competitions, and community sales and exhibitions.

The campaign was launched simultaneously across Labuan, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

The 2026 celebration carries the theme ‘Wilayah Persekutuan Kita’, underscoring a shared commitment to patriotism.
