Shoppers evacuated from Pasaraya Mydin Vista Tunku in Petra Jaya after fire breaks out on first floor
KUCHING: Emergency services conducted a full-scale evacuation at a prominent shopping complex in the state capital after flames broke out within the premises this morning.
The incident at Pasaraya Mydin Vista Tunku, situated in Petra Jaya, was reported to authorities at approximately 11.40am, according to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department.
Fire crews were immediately dispatched after receiving alerts about flames on the building’s first level. Upon arrival, firefighters initiated suppression operations while coordinating with mall security to clear the premises.
“All individuals present in the facility are being directed to designated safe zones,” department officials stated in their update.
The exact count of people inside at the time remains unclear. Operations to contain the fire and complete the evacuation are currently ongoing.
The retail complex is positioned roughly five kilometers from Kuching’s city center.
