Flood evacuees increase in Terengganu, Perak, Perlis, Selangor and Pahang while Kelantan and Kedah see slight declines in numbers.
KUALA LUMPUR: Unpredictable weather conditions have driven up flood evacuee numbers in five states while Kelantan and Kedah recorded slight declines.
In Terengganu, evacuees rose to 4,111 people from 1,245 families this afternoon from 3,483 people this morning.
The Terengganu Disaster Management Committee said continuous rain continues affecting most parts of the state.
Sungai Nerus at three locations in Setiu has now surpassed the danger mark according to publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my.
Perak recorded 5,689 victims from 1,749 families this afternoon compared to 5,620 victims this morning.
Manjung district continues to record the highest number with 2,098 people across 17 relief centres.
Perlis evacuees increased to 7,622 people this afternoon from 7,501 people this morning.
Twenty-four relief centres are operating in Padang Besar, Arau and Kangar districts.
Selangor’s evacuee count rose slightly to 2,467 people from 654 families.
Fourteen relief centres remain operational across affected districts after one centre closed.
Pahang’s flood evacuees increased to 21 people from eight families from 19 people this morning.
All affected individuals are housed at three relief centres in the Lipis district.
Several rivers in Pahang have surpassed their alert thresholds according to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage.
Sungai Belat in Kuantan rose to 3.10 metres, exceeding the 3.0-metre alert level.
Sungai Lipis in Batu Malim recorded 114.57 metres, above the 114.24-metre warning level.
Sungai Telemong in Bentong reached 98.28 metres, surpassing the 98.10-metre alert level.
Kelantan’s evacuee numbers dropped to 9,187 people from 3,456 families from 10,950 this morning.
Tumpat, Bachok, Pasir Mas and Kota Bharu remain among the worst-affected districts.
Sixty-one temporary relief centres are operating across nine districts in Kelantan.
Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang remains at a dangerous level of 10.36 metres.
This reading is 1.36 metres above the 9-metre danger threshold.
Kedah’s evacuee numbers decreased to 4,270 people from 1,442 families from 4,306 people this morning.
All evacuees from Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar and Pokok Sena districts are housed at 23 relief centres.
