Flood situation improves across seven states, evacuee numbers drop

Flood conditions ease in seven Malaysian states with significant reductions in evacuee counts reported this morning, though some centres remain open.

KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation across Peninsular Malaysia is improving, with a notable reduction in the number of evacuees at temporary relief centres as of 8 am today.

In Selangor, 1,835 people from 523 families are housed at 27 centres across four districts, down from 1,918 people last night.

Floods in Terengganu have almost subsided, with evacuee numbers dropping sharply to just 37 people from 22 families.

Kelantan also recorded a drop, with 178 people from 69 families currently sheltered in Pasir Mas.

The situation is improving in Perak, where 3,610 people from 1,061 families are at 21 centres across five districts.

Hilir Perak district still has the highest number of evacuees in the state at 1,716 people.

MetMalaysia has forecast good weather conditions across all 12 districts of Perak for the entire day.

In Kedah, the number of evacuees dropped to 169 people from 52 families, all from the Kubang Pasu district.

Although sunny with no recent rain, many victims have not returned home due to unsafe conditions.

In Pahang, evacuee numbers reduced slightly to 198 people from 51 families.

Three rivers in Pahang remained at the danger level this morning, according to publicinfobanjir data.

The Pekan District Police announced the closure of SK Temai today due to flooded grounds from the Sungai Pahang overflow.

In Perlis, the number of victims dropped to 1,351 people across six relief centres. – Bernama
