Flood victims in Kedah and Perak drop to 913 at relief centres

Flood situation improves in Kedah and Perak with 913 victims remaining at relief centres, down from 985 earlier today.

KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Kedah and Perak continues to show signs of recovery as the number of evacuees at temporary relief centres (PPS) dropped to 985 this evening from 1,442 this morning.

In Kedah, the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) in a statement said the number of flood victims dropped to 781 people (217 families), from 1,005 people (282 families) earlier this morning.

Evacuees from Pendang, Kota Setar, and Pokok Sena districts are currently sheltered at five PPS still operating.

Pendang continues to record the highest number of victims with 576 people from 160 families, followed by Kota Setar (135 people from 36 families) and Pokok Sena (70 people from 21 families).

Meanwhile, in Perak, flood conditions also showed positive improvements with four relief centres closing this evening, leaving 204 evacuees from 59 families at two centres still operating in the Manjung district, compared with 437 people from 128 families this morning.

According to the Perak JPBN Secretariat, 130 people from 36 families remain at the Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai PPS, while 74 people from 23 families are at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Batu PPS. – Bernama
