Flood victims in Kedah and Perak decline with temporary centres closing as water levels recede, according to disaster management committees.
KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Kedah and Perak continues to improve with the number of victims being evacuated to temporary evacuation centres dropping as of 8 pm tonight.
In Kedah, the State Disaster Management Committee announced that 579 victims from 156 families were still being housed in four temporary evacuation centres, down from 698 people from 198 families this morning.
Pendang District recorded the highest number of victims with 503 people from 136 families in three temporary evacuation centres.
In Kota Setar, 76 people from 20 families were still taking shelter in one temporary evacuation centre.
The temporary evacuation centre in the Pokok Sena district, which had been operating since Oct 25, was completely closed at 10 am this morning after all victims were allowed to return to their homes.
Meanwhile, in Perak, the state disaster management committee secretariat reported that the number of flood victims in the Manjung district has decreased to 129 people from 30 families.
All of them have taken shelter at the temporary evacuation centre at Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai in Pantai Remis.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department informed that the water level of Kinta River in the Kinta district is at the warning level, which is as high as 248.16 metres compared to the normal level of 243.50 metres. – Bernama
